Faithful Folk
Greetings all! In this review, we will trek off the beaten path with a CD titled "Faithful Folk" by the Hannon family. I found myself thinking back to my younger years on this earth when I was into (am I dating myself here?) folk songs and music of the 60's. For those of you who remember Bob Dylan and enjoy his style, then this CD just might interest you.
Although this CD is not really of the Celtic style, it does follow a Celtic bardic tradition of narrative poetry put to song. I felt it worth bringing attention to because of it's intended purpose - to teach about God's "Faithful Folk". The Hannon's have successfully mixed music and history to tell us how faith was used in the lives of people in our past and present.
The Hannon Family travel and give multimedia presentations; this recording's content and packaging suggest that it is intended more as an instructional tool than as pure entertainment.
All but two of the songs are written by the Hannon family. One song in particular I want to point out is the second track called "Daniel". (It screams Dylan style). It's about Daniel in the lions den. God shows us how He used the enemy's desire and plans to snare His "faithful" child, (Daniel), then turn it around and bring glory to Himself. All came out well because Daniel continued to seek God in prayer and remain faithful to Him. I am reminded of Jeremiah 29:11 & 13: "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord... plans to give you hope and a future.... You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
The Hannon family, (Patrick, Diane, Joseph, Daniel and Deborah) have obviously put a lot of time, commitment and prayer into this CD. God has blessed them in many areas of their lives from music to historical knowledge and being a family focused on God. I would say the Hannon family are truly "Faithful Folk" themselves.
