Album Reviews: Margaret Becker / Kristyn Getty / Joanne HoggNew Irish Hymns #3: Incarnation From it's gorgeous cover art to its impeccable sound quality, New Irish Hymns #3: Incarnation is the result of impeccable production values. Produced, composed, arranged, orchestrated, and conducted by Keith Getty, who brought us New Irish Hymns (known as In Christ Alone in the U.S.) and New Irish Hymns #2: Father, Son, & Holy Spirit, Incarnation continues this series with the same talented trio of vocal talent from the previous album. Based this time on the first chapter of John, Incarnation brings the centuries-old tradition of Christmas hymn-writing into the modern era with original compositions focusing on the theme of the Word made flesh, but not in a way that beats you over the head with cheesy "Christmassy" tunes--this album is one that will bring home the power of the incarnation year-round. Stylistically, Incarnation finds familiar footing with songs more suited to corporate worship than a ceilidh. Keith Getty's orchestrations are by design singable. The Celtic influences are sprinkled here and there in the most subtle ways. "When Love Came Down To Earth" is a special treat with a guitar solo by Phil Keaggy and guest production by John Hartley and The Choir's Derri Dougherty. Incarnation, as well as sheet music, tracks, and a production guide, are available from gettymusic.com. --Cory Engel, CelticChristianTunes.com |
