Speaking of New Age spirituality
Ran across an article today that appeared in Christianity Today a couple of years ago about John Doan and his faith. An excerpt:
The turning point [in Doan's faith] came when he was reading a passage in Leviticus. It struck him that God instructed the Israelites not to consult sorcerers and mediums because to do so precluded complete reliance on God. Doan says the insight available from other supernatural means is real but insufficient. Deirdra [his wife] says that because of Doan's experiences, he can relate to New Agers. "He can speak to them profoundly and without guile," she says, "because he is them, only he has the blessedness of Christ in his life."
While I'd have to disagree with his assessment of non-Christian supernatural means of insight as "insufficient"--it would be much more accurate to label them "destructive"--I can appreciate Doan's gentle finesse, rather than an in-your-face approach which seems to be my modus operandi.

Good write-up and reference. DOAN ROCKS! Purchased his "Eire" CD on a whim a few years back on St. Pat's day, and WOW has it blessed me. I even put in on when I have a migraine - the tunes are very soothing and introspective. If you haven't heard this guy, do yourself a favor and pick up his "Eire" CD.
Anyone here ever seen him in concert? Hope to do so someday when I end my 'exile' in the US Midwest and return home to the Pac NW.
Peace to all -
Yeah, Mike, Doan is a real artist. When you do get the chance to see him in concert, don't miss it. I've seen him a couple of times. The concerts I've seen have been solo and devoid of flash, but nothing but class through and through. Nice stage sets, tight execution. Salem OR is home base for him, so if you spend time around there you'll get several chances to see him in concert.
The harp guitar is really something to see, especially in John's hands.
